Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost the base stats of the item or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.
Items that have weak bases, like rings, can be upgraded into a stronger base. Items with strong bases, like the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.
Upgrade components

There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be put in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. If an individual upgrades a gathering tool and replaces glyphs with another glyph the previous one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, with the exception of inscriptions which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from the previous versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item can only be upgraded as many times before it is "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however, the materials needed do not increase as much. This allows players to focus their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the effect of those items rather than spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.
This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as Artisan’s Energy and it resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to gain affixes which will increase its features. The number of affixes that are available depends on the type of item it is. For instance an uncommon or rare weapon with a base that is normal will only have two affixes available for it, whereas a legendary armor will have up to eight affixes for it.
Each upgrade process requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level and what slot it is placed in. In general, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.
If an item fails to reach its max level The NPC will offer the player the option of transfer it to a different character and re-infuse it with an upgrade set that is different. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will result in a lower chance of success.
Engineers use a level in order to measure the height of the building with a known location, such as a benchmark. This process is known as a "level-loop." This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method makes sure that buildings are built to a high level of accuracy and safety.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of altering an item's upgrade components. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength, damage, or other characteristics.
